I'd been on the hunt for a new place to write when my sister sent me a link to this article about a co-working space that just opened in Toronto called Love Child Social House. They were featured again yesterday in The Toronto Star.
I usually work from my home office but I need a change of scenery every few days to keep me motivated and inspired. Coffee shops are okayyyy but it's hard to find the perfect one where you feel like you can stay for hours without taking up seats or get distracted by other conversations. I love working at libraries, but being surrounded by students studying during exam season makes me feel really old and super out of place.
Co-working spaces have recently started cropping up around the city as more and more freelancers / small start-ups are looking for somewhere to work where they're surrounded by other creatives in similar positions.
Located at King and Bathurst, it's an enjoyable walk from my apartment (not too close, not too far... juuust right), has a professional yet laid-back vibe that makes it a welcoming "office" to come to every day, and a friendly community of early adopters.
They offer a free 3-day trial, and the first month unlimited for $45. After that it's unlimited for $75/month, however I'll probably do the $45/month membership which allows me to come twice a week (a nice change-up from my home office) and my membership card still gives me full benefits (i.e. access to all of the events, printing services, and café discounts etc).
During the day it's a members-only workspace with a full coffee/juice bar (and a full bar that opens at 11 a.m. if you really wanted to get those creative juices flowing) and lots of lounge areas for meetings or reading / watching TV. In the middle of the huge studio they have long wooden tables that are great for posting up at all day. Love Child opens to the public in the evenings as a bar / music venue / event space (incl. inspirational speakers and bingo nights on the docket).
I recently got my (entrepreneur) pal Hilary hooked so if you're a creative looking for a new place to work out of, come join us!! They play great music, have plenty of outlets to plug in all of your devices (or let you borrow their chargers if you forget yours), serve unlimited jugs of lemon-infused water, and have lots of plants / diffusers going for that supreme oxygen.
